Tip Once
you get used to reading on your Palm, you may find it useful to create
document files from your own documents. These could be technical reference
documents, manuals, troubleshooting guides, or anything else you think
you might need. There are several applications that can help you with
this. * Qvadis Reader DX: This software works if you use one of the Qvadis
document readers. $19.95. http://www.qvadis.com/ * PalmDocs: This great
app lets you use Word 97 or 2000 as your Palm documents editor. It's one
of the best for converting Word docs. Not recommended if you use another
word processor or need to convert from other formats. $19.95. http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=51081120000910162623&pro
dID=7645 * AportisDoc PDF Converter: Use this application to create doc
files directly from Adobe Acrobat PDF files. If you have lots of data
in PDF, this might be the app for you. $14.95. http://www.aportis.com/
For more choices, pay Palm Gear a visit. http://www.palmgear.com/ SPEED IS THE WORD If you create a lot of text on your Palm handheld, take a look at TextPlus from SmartCell Technology. http://www.smartcell.com/ This nifty add-on monitors the words you enter and, based on the first few characters, displays choices of words that begin with those letters in a small pop-up menu. Tapping on one of the words will complete the word for you where you were entering it. You can even add words by simply double-clicking them. In addition, the utility stores whole phrases, which means you can save yourself some typing if you find you're always entering the same words or phrases. And TextPlus determines which words to suggest first based on how often you use them, so words you seldom use will come up last. If you're looking to expedite data entry, the $19.95 TextPlus is an invaluable utility--take our word for it. PROTECT YOUR HANDHELD WITH THESE ANTIVIRUS PROGRAMS Worried about viruses on your Palm OS handheld? You should be. The first virus targeting the Palm OS was identified last month. This article focuses on three antivirus programs for PDAs. http://www.techrepublic.com/article.jhtml?id=r00520001004law01.htm PUT THAT PAPER DOWN: PALM III IS A TECH SUPPORT PRO'S DREAM Why are you still keeping a paper day planner? Because you probably haven't seen the great features of 3Com's six-ounce wonder. http://www.techrepublic.com/article.jhtml?id=r00319990319ken01.htm MAKE A DATE WITH DATEBK4 Let's face it, the appointment application that comes with Palm is, well, pretty lame. It gets the job done, but most of us are accustomed to using more advanced software (e.g., Outlook) to manage our daily affairs. Take Pimlico Software's DateBk4, for instance. This sophisticated app provides a great interface for viewing appointments, linking ToDo's or appointments to contacts or memos, displaying appointments in different fonts, attaching icons, and building custom views. You can link font styles of appointments to certain categories, which makes using this formatting feature quick and easy. There are lots of other pluses--too many, in fact, to cover here. http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/ Suffice it to say that, at $24.99, this software is well worth the asking price. You can even try it out for 45 days free of charge. Home | Our Constitution | Our Projects | Business Opportunities | Links
